At Prince Andrew School the Learning Support Department caters for Key Stage 3 & 4 pupils with resources, strategies, practices, interventions, and differentiated programs that address barriers to promoting engagement in learning, as well as providing social, emotional, and intellectual support intended to enable all pupils including those with learning difficulties and Special Educational Needs (SEND) to have an equal opportunity for success and enjoyment.
Key Stage 3 pupils from Years 7 & 9 working together to make a booklet entitled ‘Personal Space’ using the knowledge that they have learnt in previous PSHCE lessons throughout the year.
At Harpers Agricultural Centre pupils are provided with a garden plot, which they themselves maintain by weeding,
prepare for planting and then harvesting. This is done as part of a sensory diet, life skills and work related learning. In Years 10 & 11 the Unit Award – Agriculture is done as an alternative to GCSE.
Hydro-Therapy/Swimming is part of a sensory diet, and pupils’ enjoy these sessions twice per week. Pupils are able to express themselves as well as develop their swimming skills.
Sensory Room – filled with bean bags, cushions, colour-changing bubble lamp and lights which are used to give pupils a safe and supportive space, to escape the potentially overwhelming environment of a busy classroom and is used as and when needed.
Speech and Language Therapy takes place to help those pupils with language and communication difficulties. This is done through using the VERVE programme, Makaton signing, barrier games, Bingo and Lego Therapy.
We strive to cater for the diverse needs of our pupils
